About this tool
Cut an image down to the part you need. Drag the box over the image, or type exact pixel values, and choose a fixed shape such as 1:1 for avatars or 16:9 for thumbnails. Save the result as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
Everything runs in your browser. Your image is never uploaded.
How it works
- The crop is made from the original image at full resolution, not from the smaller picture on screen. A 4000-pixel-wide photo cropped to a 1000-pixel area gives a 1000-pixel file with no extra loss of detail.
- Drag inside the box to move it, and drag a handle to resize it. With a fixed shape, only the corner handles are shown and the shape is kept. The numbers on the right always show the exact crop in original-image pixels, and you can edit them.
- "Same as the image" keeps the original proportions. If you change the shape while a box exists, the box is adjusted to fit inside the image.
- PNG keeps transparency. JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. WebP keeps transparency in browsers that can save it; if yours cannot, the file is saved as PNG and the page tells you.
- Photos from phones are shown the way you see them in a gallery (the camera rotation is applied), and the crop is made from that view. Metadata such as location and camera model is not copied into the new file.
- The largest supported image is 100 megapixels, and no side can be longer than 16,384 pixels.
FAQ
Q. Can I rotate or resize too?
A. This tool only crops. To change the dimensions or file size, use the Image Resizer.
Q. Does cropping hide the cut-off part for good?
A. Yes. The new file contains only the pixels inside the box, so what you cut off is not stored in it. Your original file is not changed.
