QR Code Generator
About this tool
Make a QR code for a link, a Wi-Fi network, an email, a phone number or a text message. Scan it with a phone camera to open the link or join the network. Download it as a PNG for documents and slides, or as an SVG that stays sharp at any size when printed.
Everything runs in your browser. What you type, including a Wi-Fi password, is never sent to a server.
How it works
- Text is encoded as UTF-8, so non-English characters scan correctly. The code is a static QR code: the data is stored in the image itself, so it never expires and nothing is tracked.
- Error correction lets a code still scan when part of it is dirty or covered. Higher levels (Q, H) survive more damage but make the code denser. L or M is best for screens and clean prints; use Q or H if you put a logo over the center.
- Image size is a target. The modules (the small squares) are drawn as whole pixels so the edges stay sharp, so the downloaded PNG can be a few pixels smaller than the size you chose. The SVG has no pixel limit.
- Quiet zone is the blank border around the code. Scanners need about 4 modules of it. Reducing it saves space but can make scanning fail.
- Colors: scanners expect a dark code on a light background. The tool warns you when the contrast is low or the colors are inverted, and many apps cannot read inverted codes.
- Capacity: up to 2,953 bytes at level L, and fewer at higher levels. The more you store, the denser and harder to scan the code becomes. For long URLs, a short link works better.
- Wi-Fi codes use the standard
WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;format that current Android and iOS cameras understand. Special characters in the name or password are escaped for you.
FAQ
Q. Does the QR code expire?
A. No. It only contains the text you entered. If it points to a web page, the code works as long as that page does.
Q. My code will not scan.
A. Use dark on light colors, keep the quiet zone at 4, print it larger than about 2 cm (0.8 in) square, and avoid putting a lot of text in it. Test with more than one phone before printing many copies.
